Fire hose reel inspection, testing, and tagging is the process of inspecting, servicing, testing, and documenting the condition of fire hose reels to ensure they are fully operational and ready for use during a fire emergency.
Like other fire protection equipment, fire hose reels are typically inspected and maintained with a service tag or maintenance label
What is inspected?
1. Visual Inspection
The technician checks:
- Hose reel is clearly visible and easily accessible
- Cabinet or mounting bracket is secure
- Hose is free from cuts, cracks, abrasion, or kinks
- Nozzle is present and undamaged
- Isolation valve is accessible and operational
- Operating instructions and signage are clearly visible
- Service tag is present and up to date
2. Functional Test
The technician performs operational checks such as:
- Open the isolation valve
- Unwind the hose
- Check hose movement and reel operation
- Operate the nozzle through all spray settings
- Verify adequate water flow and pressure
- Inspect for leaks at hose connections, valve, and nozzle
- Rewind the hose correctly after testing
