Fire Blanket Inspection, Testing & Tagging
Fire blanket inspection and tagging is the process of checking, maintaining, and recording the condition of fire blankets to ensure they are ready for immediate use in the event of a small fire, particularly cooking oil and clothing fires.
Like fire extinguishers, fire blankets are generally inspected and serviced with a maintenance label or service tag
What is inspected?
1. Visual Inspection
The technician checks:
- Fire blanket cabinet or pouch is securely mounted
- Blanket is easily accessible and unobstructed
- Container is not damaged or broken
- Pull tabs are present and undamaged
- Operating instructions are legible
- Blanket has not been used or deployed
- Service label is present and readable
2. Condition Inspection
The technician verifies:
- No signs of moisture or contamination
- Blanket is correctly folded inside the container
- Fabric is free from tears, burns, or deterioration
- Mounting bracket is secure
- Manufacturer’s label is legible
