RCD Test & Tag

RCD Test & Tag

An RCD (Residual Current Device) Test & Tag is the inspection, testing, and labeling of Residual Current Devices (Safety Switches) to ensure they operate correctly and disconnect power quickly if an earth leakage fault occurs.

RCDs are designed to protect people from electric shock and help reduce the risk of electrical fires.

What is tested?

During an RCD Test & Tag, a qualified tester performs:

  1. Visual Inspection
    • Check for cracks or damage
    • Inspect plugs, sockets, and cables
    • Verify correct installation
  2. Push Button Test
    • Press the TEST button to confirm the RCD trips.
    • This is a simple functional check and should be performed regularly by users.
  3. Tagging
    • Attach a tag showing:
      • Equipment ID
      • Test date
      • Next due date
      • Pass/Fail result
